4 Country Capstone

Yesterday was a great day in general, although I felt pretty crabby and had developed a headach half way through the day. We went to an archeological site where they found the ruins of King Philip, father of Alexander the Great. There were three tombs all together. I was amazing to see their ability to construct such beautiful structures that are still standing today!! They were built around 330 B.C. They don't mummify their royalty like the Egyptians do. They cover them in wine and oil and burn them. They take the remaining bones and ashes and put them in a small box then cover them with a purple cloth. The cloth had gold flower bead-like things on them that were still intact!!! The gold crowns that they wore were also still intact. I baffles me how these things can hold up through all the years

After the tomb, we went to another site where they discovered a city! I was in a pretty bad mood and really couldn't enjoy it much, which was unfortunate. There were foundations, parts of walls, columns, even statues still stood. I didn't get to see all of it because it closed at 3 and we got there at 2:15.

It is not surprising that our time was not budgeted well, because our professor has a horrible concept of how long it takes to get place. The whole group is having trouble with the lack of communication that is going on. No one ever knows what time we are leaving and when we ask, the professor gets upset and says that we don't listen. Even though, our graduate assistant on the trip doesn't know either! That part is pretty frustrating.

Today was a rainy day. We got up late and ate gyros, and tried calamari. They were both delicious. Then the "rooms" and I read while it poured and napped. There are no plans today and unfortunately, the weather makes it so we have to stay inside. Tomorrow we leave for Athens. We have to be on the bus at 5 am and get there at 3 pm. I am not looking forward to that ride. I won't  be as bad as the one to Greece, but it will be close.

4 Country Capstone

Today was an amazing day. Our professor knows a guy who owns a boat and we all were able to spend the day sailing around the coast of Greece! We had drinks and danced. It was a great time. Around 10:30 we got off the boat and went to the beach and layed out for a while. Then we got lunch which was awesome. Seafood of course!! Then we headed back to the boat and the the same thing as before. When we got back to shore we layed out on the beach for a few hours. There were topless women, old men in speedos, and naked kids everywhere. It was wonderful. I am now waiting to eat the dinner that is prepared by the family that owns this hotel. Greece is so beautiful!!

4 Country Capstone

I am sitting at a small hotel in Greece trying to enjoy the beauty that is before me. Unfortunately, I have caught the cold that the rest of the group had while we were in London, Hungary, and Romania. I will type out my travels on another day but I figured I would get on and give an overview of what has been going on here.
We left Cedar Rapids ready and excited on May 9, 2012. Our plane ride was short and took us to Chicago where we had a 4 hour lay over. Some of us went and ate, others decided to get intensely drunk for our plane ride to London. I had to sit by the two drunk people, who I didn't know at the time. This was not a good way to start my trip. I slept a good portion of the way and got to watch some movies. When we got to London we had a bus tour of the city then came back for the next flight to Budapest. We stayed at the Marco Polo hostel in Hungary. We did a tour of the city, went to the market, and went on a pub crawl that night. Things definately got crazy on the pub crawl. We soon left Budapest and drove to the medical college in Cluj-Nepoca, Romania. There we met Patric. He was our student guide and helped us around the city. He introduced us to his friends and we had a ball with them while we were there. They were some of the nicest guys I have ever met. We got into our hotel this morning after our 18 hour bus ride from Cluj to our current city in Greece. The trip has been a blast so far and if it weren't for this dang cold I would be out doing all sorts of stuff. I am going to try to tough it out and do everything we have planned. I will add pictures and more detail when I get home!
